Finnish loan fuels corruption scandal in Costa Rica

A Finnish concessionary loan to Costa Rica has put the Finnish Foreign Ministry in the middle of one of the Central American country’s biggest financial scandals. The Ministry has launched an investigation of Finland’s involvement, but is criticised for not examining the possible Finnish role in the alleged corruption.

World Bank shifts from loans to grants in 40 countries next year

In future, the World Bank will become a grant provider in 40 of the poorest countries in the world. This is a main outcome of international negotiations concerning the replenishment of the Bank’s soft funding arm, IDA.

AsDB reluctant to publicise names of sanctioned companies

Nordic donors want the Asian Development Bank’s Anticorruption Unit to be more transparent and publicise the names of the companies and individuals it sanctions. ADB has so far refused to do so.
