NOK 200m for UN for avoided deforestation

In his fourth major announcement of assistance in the forestry field since the Bali climate conference last December, Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg of Norway pledges NOK 200 million to the UN to help poor countries prepare for the inclusion of forests in a post-Kyoto climate regime.

Norway’s political focus with these funds is on slowing the destruction of natural forests; not tree plantations as carbon sinks.
