Head of UNEP calls for new approach to agriculture
The head of UNEP Achim Steiner urges donors to diversify their agricultural aid, and take seriously growing evidence that organic agriculture has a role to play in improving food security for Africa’s poor.
For Nordic donors, taking on Steiner’s recommendations would require a major restructuring of development assistance. The level of aid to agriculture is low, and has only barely kept up with expanding aid budgets. Organic farming receives just a tiny fraction of this.
