Donors challenge UN salary level in new health foundation

The new Geneva-based Millennium Foundation is challenging the high salary levels in the UN System, GAVI and the Global Fund. France has demanded that wages in the foundation, which will manage revenues from flight taxation to be used for health purposes in poor countries, are lowered to avoid criticism about high administrative costs.

The Managing Director of the new foundation, to be launched in the new year, will have a net monthly salary of EUR 7,000, which works out to less than half the wage of a director post at GAVI.
