Norway challenges EU law on large hydro

The Norwegian Petroleum and Energy Ministry does not view the EU law on hydropower project assessment, which is based on the recommendations of the World Commission on Dams (WCD), as binding.

Instead, the Ministry says the process coordinated by the hydropower industry to develop new standards is “more balanced and practical".

But the EU Emissions Trading Unit says the law is binding and Norway’s interpretation is wrong.
