Zambia forestry programme

Finland plans to support the Decentralised Forest and Other Natural Resources Management Programme in Zambia with EUR 4-5 million during 2014-2017.

The Foreign Ministry in Helsinki announces a contract for the consultancy services for the programme.

This is to be a three-year “introduction project” which will lay the foundations for a devolved sustainable forest and other natural resources management system. The aim is to establish sustainable development models that can, by 2026, improve the livelihoods of rural communities.

According to the ministry, concerned Zambian traditional leaders, forestry professionals and CSOs approached Finland about finding solutions to the alarming deforestation rate. The programme has been in the planning since 2010.

The deadline for the submission of tenders is August 25, 2014.
