Norway disburses NOK 600m for dam that will flood rainforest in Guyana

Norway has transferred more than half a billion crowns to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington for a hydropower project that will flood thousands of hectares of Guyana’s Amazon forest. If the project, Amaila Falls, does not materialise by July 2016, IDB will return the money to Norway.

Swedish EcoEnergy sugar project delayed again. Sida stands to lose SEK 50 million

Sida is again re-negotiating its agreement with the Swedish sugar and ethanol firm EcoEnergy in Tanzania. Torbjörn Pettersson, Head of Africa at Sida, says to Development Today: “We think they have done an extremely optimistic evaluation of their costs from the past. There was quite a big discrepancy ... The alternative is for the owners to put in more money, but they were not prepared to do that.”

Brende eyes reform options as end of Ban Ki-moon’s term draws closer

Norway is preparing a new UN reform initiative targeting candidates for the post of Secretary General which Ban Ki-moon will vacate at the end of 2016.
