Southern African innovation support

The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs announces a tender for the consultancy services for implementation of the Southern African Innovation Support Programme, Phase 2 (SAIS 2).

This is the second phase of a programme which began in 2010. It involves innovation support in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia, with the programme management office being located in Windhoek.

The purpose of the programme is to enhance the capacity of regional actors, enabling them to interact at higher levels and to support the development of enterprises. It emphasises actions that impact the so-called “base of the pyramid”, supporting enterprises in innovation and delivering inclusive innovation to communities and disadvantaged groups.

With several countries involved, participants will be able to join together and share experiences, strengthening regional networks.

The challenge fund isdivided into three main windows:

1) Improving the capacity of innovation institutions and intermediaries to enable them to support private sector innovation and enterprise development. Seven organisations will be targetted.

2) Improving the capacity of enterprises to innovate and enter new markets. Bootcamps, mentoring and training will be organised. 50 new products, processes and services should be developed as a result of this second window.

3) Improving the enabling environment for inclusive innovation activities in the region.

The main emphasis of this programme is on concrete innovation activities.

The deadline for the submission of tenders is March 7, 2017.
