Halving poverty: more Swedes believe it’s possible

News October 17, 2005
A growing number of Swedes believe the Millennium Development Goal to halve poverty by 2015 can be realised, according to a recent opinion poll carried out by SIFO on behalf of the Swedish aid agency, Sida. In 2002, only 10 per cent of those surveyed believed it was possible. Two years ago, the figure had risen to 17 per cent; and this year, to 22 per cent. The under-30s set was even more optimistic, with 30 per cent indicating that poverty can be halved in the next ten years.
