Norway puts brakes on Gavi pledge, old promises strain the budget

Norway, a key donor to the vaccine alliance Gavi, announces a reduction in its support for the next five years, sending an ominous signal ahead of the agency’s replenishment event that takes place in Brussels tomorrow. The announcement means that Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, who was personally involved in the creation of Gavi 25 years ago and had pushed for Norway to make a high pledge, appears to have taken a step back.
