Sida spells out ‘high’ risks of SEKAB’s African biofuel plan

Sida has for months remained silent amid growing criticism of the controversial SEKAB biofuel project in Tanzania. Now the aid agency says the social and environmental risks of the project outweigh its potential advantages.

An assessment commissioned by Sida points to a finding reported by Development Today earlier this year: SEKAB downplayed warnings in a consultant’s study and submitted the altered report to Tanzanian authorities.
